Virax Biolabs Group (NASDAQ: VRAX) experienced a significant surge in stock value today amidst growing concerns about bird flu. This surge in interest comes as the number of bird flu cases continues to rise worldwide. The highly pathogenic avian influenza virus, including its H5N1 form, has been spreading in poultry and cattle, leading to human infections reported in several countries, including the U.S.

Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed the first laboratory-confirmed human case of infection with the H5N2 strain of the virus in Mexico, which resulted in a fatality. Notably, in March 2023, Virax (VRAX) introduced its avian influenza A virus real-time PCR test kit in the European Union for laboratory use. This test is designed to detect and differentiate H5, H7, and H9 subtypes, including the H5N1 strain of the virus.

Shares of nano-cap diagnostics company Virax Biolabs Group (NASDAQ:VRAX) more than doubled in value in the morning hours Thursday as the company drew Wall Street’s attention amid a rising number of bird flu cases worldwide.

Several countries, including the U.S., have already reported human bird flu infections as the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus, including its H5N1 form, continues to spread in poultry and cattle.

The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed the death of a 59-year-old linked to bird flu in Mexico, marking the first laboratory-confirmed human case of infection with the H5N2 strain of the virus.

In March 2023, Virax (VRAX) launched its avian influenza A virus real-time PCR test kit in the European Union for laboratory use. The test can detect and differentiate H5, H7, and H9 subtypes, including the H5N1 strain of the virus, the U.K.-based firm said at the time.

ImmuneSelect is the Company’s new portfolio of immune profiling solutions dedicated to investigating adaptive immunity. Products within the ImmuneSelect brand are for research and investigational use only and are not intended to be used as a diagnostics tool. The ImmuneSelect portfolio includes peptide pools covering epitopes from pathogens linked to post-viral syndromes. Post-viral syndromes are a wide range of complex conditions involving physical, cognitive, emotional, and neurological difficulties that vary in severity over time. These conditions frequently lead to a sense of tiredness and weakness, pain, difficulty concentrating and headaches that linger after the viral infection has cleared.
